Lago di Braies reflection

Sunny day at Lago di Braies, behind the cameraI still have many photos that I never edited or posted, like this one from Lago di Braies, from all the travels I did over the many years. There are different reasons for not doing so. Either they are too similar to what I already posted, I could not get the result I wanted in editing, or it was just too much work to remove stuff I did not like. But as the times change and the programs get better, it is easier to get the result now. That is why one always should take photos in RAW, as you can always go back and edit what you got.

So for today, I went back through my photo archives, to my trip to the Dolomites in Italy, to the Lago di Braies, and edited a photo I took that day. This is a blend from 3 exposures, created in Photoshop, with some editing done with Nik Collection Color Efex. I used the 12mm Laowa lens here, to get a nice wide shot. A little behind-the-scenes shot on the side here.

Btw. I also upped the resolution of the photos I’m posting here, up to 1800px wide. As the resolution of screens went up quite a lot in recent years, one just has to keep up. I also updated to a 32-inch 4K screen and the 1350px wide I used to use before,  just looks tiny on such a screen. And it’s just the same on phones and tablets. I have not decided yet, but maybe I just go even bigger, jump to 2K, or even directly 4K resolution. Who knows what the future brings, it’s easier to change before technology catches up.

What do you think? Rather smaller images, so the page loads quicker, or better to go bit, and focus on the quality and look?

Clear water at Lago di Braies

I thought I post a photo I took yesterday of the lights on the top of the NBS building in Bratislava, but I don’t like the edit I did yet. I think I will have to have it standing around for a bit and try to edit it again in a few days. Sometimes when I try to edit the photo right away, I don’t get the result I want. A little distance to the time when it was taken can help.

But to post something in the meantime, here is a shot from Lago di Braies. This one was at the boat dock in the lake, taken a bit to the side. I had to wait a bit to have no one on the dock, and for the boat to stable a bit, as they were moving around. But I liked that I could see that something on the bottom of the lake, as it made for a nice leading line. So I waited.

This is a two shot vertorama, each shot blended from 3 exposures. All put together in Photoshop.

In the shade

Let’s do another, a bit different, view from the Lago di Braies om Dolomites, Italy. As I was walking around the lake, I was looking for a way to hide the sky a bit. The clouds just did not look that nice. So with the help of the 12mm lens, I found this spot. The branches of the tree were low enough, that while still standing relatively close, I could see them in the frame. Like this, I got a nice frame and also hid the sky a lot. And the roots make for a nice detail in the foreground.

This is a blend from 5 exposures, done in Photoshop. I had to use more exposures, since I was standing in the shade and that made the foreground quite dark.

Little chapel next to Lago di Braies

Today’s photo is another, different view from the Lago di Braies in Dolomites, Italy. This time I tried to get the little chapel that was next to it into one shot together with the lake. I really liked how the path curved towards it and that the little fence made a nice border on the left. To get all of that into the photo, I went with a panorama here. I also had to remove a few cars that were next to the chapel. They just really did not fit the mood I wanted for this photo. I thought about taking one photo a bit close to it, but there was some work done there, so decided against it in the end.

This is a two-shot panorama, taken with the help of a tilt-shift lens. Each shot blended from three exposures and combined in Photoshop.

Sunny day reflection at Lago di Braies

Today’s photo is another one from the Lago di Braies in Dolomites, Italy. I have most of my photos from this lake, as when I was there, the weather was best that day. This is a smaller part to the side of the lake. I wanted to do a photo from that little bridge, that you can see on the right, but there was a huge pile of broken tree branches in front of it in the water. And I did not want that in my photo. If you look in this photo, the spot from today’s photo was taken is on the left in it.

This is a two exposure blend, done in Photoshop. I used the 12mm lens here, to get a lot of the reflection in the photo.
