How about another fog shot today. This one was a really crazy evening, with the visibility being the worse I ever seen in Bratislava. And so you can compare, I’m including a photo from the same spot, taken during a clear day. The difference is just crazy. The bridge is completely hidden.

This is a single exposure, edited in Lightroom and Photoshop. I had to add quite a lot of contrast and a little bit of color, clean up dust spots and add noise, to prevent color banding.

Disappeared

Technique: Photoshop edit, Number of exposures: 1, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones MkIII Adapter, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 19mm, Aperture: 10, Middle exposure time: 13s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.139544, 17.103889

I sometimes feel so stupid. Like today, when I decided to go down to Danube, to take a few photos. Of course I didn’t taken into account at all, that there is a huge amount of moisture in the air, and it’s quite cold. That means the rocks near the river were crazy slippery, partially covered with snow and ice. Luckily, I have quite a good balance, while holding a tripod in one hand, and I didn’t end up in Danube :) But it was quite funny, when even the tripos got covered with a think layer of ice.

So here for you, another foggy shot. This one is a HDR from two exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine (used very mild settings, as I only wanted to darken the bright spots on the bridge) and finished in Photoshop.

Bridge into the fog

The weather this year is really crazy. Almost no snow, and fog all the time. It was not different today, so I thought, I got and take some shots of the SNP brige, while it is partially hidden by fog. But when I got to the bridge, it was completely covered by fog. The fog was so thick, that not even the lights on the restaurant, thats on the top of the bridge, were visible. I could see nothing at all.

You can also see what I had in front of me, from the behind the camera shot I’m including.

This is a blend from two exposures, one for the base, one to darken the lights of the bridge walkway. Other than that I only cleaned dust spots, added contrast, and added noise. You may wonder why I added noise. The reason was, that this photo created crazy strong color banding right from the camera. You can read about that more here.

Bridge into the fog

Technique: Photoshop Blend, Number of exposures: 2, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones MkIII Adapter, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 29mm, Aperture: 10, Middle exposure time: 6s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.139544, 17.103889

I never tried before to take a panorama while shooting fireworks. And I haven’t even taken the nodal slider with me, as it was totally unplanned. But I still tried it out. Probably just because I needed to do something, as my fingers were freezing onto the camera :) (I was not able to control it while wearing gloves at all). The result is not completely as I hoped for, as I stupidly left the fireworks right where I needed to blend the shots. Still, it’t not completely bad :)

This is a two shots panorama, combined in PTgui, edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Fireworks Panorama

Technique: Photoshop edit, Number of exposures: 2×1, Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D mark II, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 24mm, Aperture: 8, Middle exposure time: 4s, ISO: 200, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.141600, 17.102695

I had no idea that there would be a Slovak flag on the Bratislava castle for the New years, and they even added 2016 to it after midnight. So when I saw it, I had to get to a better spot to take a photo, even if it was 1 in the morning already and my fingers were freezing. And as I was taking the fireworks photo from the castle fortifications, the better spot was on the other side of Danube. Getting through all the people that tried to cross the bridge in the opposite direction was quite and ordeal :)

This is a single exposure, edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.
