The hole in the Messe Basel New Hall

I spend the last few days in Basel in Switzerland, and while I did not take that many photos, I did few. So let’s do today a bit of a more abstract photo. This one is of the Messe Basel New Hall which is very close to the city center. This building has this huge hole in it, that you can stand under. And that’s what I did. I used the 12mm lens, pointed it straight up, and somehow managed to align it pretty well. Maybe not exactly centered, but not far from it.

This is a blend of three exposures. Blended in Photoshop. Most of the edits were just to remove the tram cables I caught on one of the sides of the photos, as it is a really wide shot.

Looking at the photo, I really though how nice it would have been if a plane flown through while I was taking it. Of course that would not be possible, as the airport is quite far away. But Photoshop can help. I did not have a photo of a plane though, so I used one from Pexels, a site where you can get free to use stock photos. You can get the photo I used from here.

One can’t even tell that there was a concert with quite a lot of people right behind me. The stage was only around 5-10m behind me. It really was noisy and I did not like the music that much also. But what can you do if you are in a city only for a short while. One just has to make the best of it :)

This is a HDR from three exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine, finished in Photoshop. The sky is from one of the exposures, the rest is HDR. I also removed few people from the bridge, as they just bothered me in the shot.

Yes, I stopped under the bridges while being in Basel. I just like this kind of composition :) Also due to recent heat wave, the rivers in Europe are quite low, and you can see that here. Even the place I was standing on, was under water when I visited last time.

This is a HDR from 3 exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine, merged with a 4th exposure, taken at a higher ISO, to remove the moving ships.

Please excuse my inability to keep up with the blog recently. I just returned from a visit to Basel in Switzerland, which was more of a family visit than photography. But I did try to take some photos, but with the weather extremes (crazy hot or raining) and the city being full of people (concert on the river every night, cinema in front of the cathedral….) I managed only few.

Hopefully things will get back to regular again soon, but hard to say. A lot of things to do :)

For today, a blue hour shot from the center of Basel. It was raining most of the day, and that created quite the interesting clouds in the evening. This is a blend from 3 exposures, created in Photoshop.

Technique: manual blend, Number of exposures: 3, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones Adapter ver. IV, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 17mm, Aperture: 10, Middle exposure time: 15s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 47.560242, 7.589626

I haven’t had the best last week, first I killed of my PC and had to reinstall everything, and then I even got sick. So today I only did a quick edit of one of my photos from Basel, and I’m going to rest now.

This is a HDR from 4 exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine, with a 5th exposure blended in to remove the ghosting. You may find it strange that I used ISO 1600 for this, but that was a mistake. I was taking the faster exposure for the boats, and I changed everything back, just not the ISO. But surprisingly, the amount of noise was quite manageable :)
