Yellow lights vs. white lights

One trend in recent years is the switching of the classic lamps in many cities, for the modern LED ones. While this probably save a lot of energy, they really do change the look of the cities. And they change it a lot. For photography, this is is a good, but also bad. If you like to take photos later in the day (as I do :)) you have already noticed this. For shots during the blue hour, the yellow lights are great. They crate a great color contrast with the blue sky and just look great. For later night shots, a more white color is better, as getting rid of a very strong yellow color cast is not that easy.

Still, I do prefer more the yellow lights. How about you?

And the yellow lights are also very strong in Budapest. Which is maybe not that great for night shots, but it truly fits well with classic architecture.

This shots is taken about a month ago, during a short visit to Budapest. This is a two shot vertorama, with each shot from two exposures, blended in Photoshop. I got most from one exposure, but needed a second one to darken few areas.

I also used another 4 shots, of the bottom area, to remove people that were randomly waling around. If you want to know how I did it, check out this guide here.

Persona 5

Why do good games come out in the Spring? Always they are released when I have no time to play them :) Same with the Persona 5, that I received today. Would be so much better if it came out in the Autumn as it should. I had time, I could have spend the 100 hours one need to get into it. But now, I can just play a little here and there. Thats why I actually prefer console games to PC. I can play for a while, and then just suspend the game and go back to work. And when I have time again, I can just resume where I ended.

The road through the Alps

With all the photos I edited over the years, I still prefer the sunset and blue hour shots to the daytime ones. I just am never really happy with the results I get in the daytime. I always feel like I’m missing something. But what can I do, other than try and try again, until I get to what I like :)

This is one of the shots I took at the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria, sometime in the middle of 2015. It’s a single exposure, edited in Photoshop.

Favorite spots

Probably in every city I visited multiple times, I have a favorite spot from where I like to take photos. And in Amsterdam, it’s this one at the canals. And since there are always multiple other photographers there, I’m not the only one :) You can see all my favorite spots from where to take photos in Amsterdam here.

Blue hour at the canals in Amsterdam

Last week, I spend only one evening in Amsterdam, and so I did not take that many photos. I was staying close to this spot (first one on the Top spots list), so I decided to go there. I took only few shots, during the blue hour, as I was quite tired from the very busy previous day. But from those there are few nice.

So here is one. This is a two shot vertorama, each one from three exposures. I used a brighter one to get the water and a darker one for the sky.

I’m back

And I’m back after a bit longer trip, that I first thought it will be. I did a lot of photos, but not many landscape or city shots. Still I got few new, that I will share with you in the next days, or until I have to leave again :).

Early morning at the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam

I spend around half a day in Rotterdam last week, and while the weather during the day was quite ugly, the morning blue hour was quite nice. But just the blue hour, as the sun did not came from behind the thick clouds at all.

So I did a little walk around the Erasmus Bridge and got few shots. I was really happy that I decided to do so, as soon after the sunrise it started raining, and I did not get much afterwards. But I did walk around the center of the city, so I seen a lot of great spots that will really require a revisit, probably very soon :)

Destination Arnhem & Amsterdam

And it’s time for another work trip for me. This time the destination is Netherlands. And as before, I have no idea if I will be able to keep up with the blog updates. This will again be a busy week, with a lot of photos I have to take, but mostly nothing for the blog. But I do hope I get a bit of time here and there, and if the weather works out, I get also some shots I can share with you here :)

Cross over the Liberty bridge

One of my favorite photo locations in Budapest is the cross on the hill above the Liberty bridge. And if you go there, and go a bit more further up the hill, you will get this view. You can even walk further up, but you don’s see much due to the trees and it get quite steep anyway :)

This is a blend from three shots, done in Photoshop.
