HIGH-RESOLUTION WALLPAPERS

Another Tuesday, another process post. For today I chosen a photo I took around midnight in Paris. As you will see, this were and easier edit, where I only had to correct few things.

So to get this result
Midnight Drivers

I did the following edits in Photoshop (layers nubmered from bottom up)
1. I started with the +1EV exposure
2+3. darkened few areas from the 0EV exposure, and also pushed the 0EV towards darker tones with the levels adjustment
4. still few more areas corrected from the -2EV exposure
5. there was detail missing in the bottom left corner, so I added it using the high pass filter
6+7. added glow (veiw my glow tutorial)
8. added 0.7 exposure to almost the whole image. I do this quite often, as higher exposure makes the photo more colorfull and vibrant.
9. added more contrast to the bright areas of the photo

And that was all. Continue to the full post to see the original 0EV exposure

I wanted a nice evening photo from the castle, but I just could not find a good spot next to it, due to all the trees there. Also they closed the castle tower way to early. Luckily I asked the very nice staff in the hotel I was staying in, if they knew a good spot to get a nice view of the city, and they suggested this, the Nebotičnik (which in slovenian means skyscraper :) ). It’s only 13 floors high, but still the highest building in the city center. It also looked like the staff of the cafe, which is on top of it, was quite used to people taking photos from there and they even had no problem with me using a tripod. But as it was raining at that time, there were not many people there anyway. Still if you are ever in Ljubljana, it’s a great place for a break.

This is a manual blend from 5 shots.
Rainy evening in Ljubljana

I checked out two churches in Maribor, and in both I was surprised that they were empty. I don’t mean that there was nothing to shoot there, but there was nobody there. Not a single person. When I entered the first one, I thought it’s just a coincidence, but when it happened again with the second one, it no longer looked like that (and I returned to the first one the next day and it was again empty). Not really sure why was that. Either I had just luck, or there were no tourists around at that time, or something else. But this really never happened to me in any other city.

But it’s great if you want to take some photos of the church. This is a HDR created from 5 shots in Oloneo Photoengine and then finished in Photoshop. Taken in the Franciscan Church in Maribor.

weather ljubljanaTo bad the weather forecast is never accurate. The forecast for the days I spend in Ljubljana promised nice sunny weather with some clouds. And just day before the trip, the forecast changed into cloudy with rain. At least they were off on the rain. But the sky was cloudy all the time (check the photo on the right, I took it during the day with my phone). So I did what I always do in such a case. I do all my photo shooting in the evening and even more in the early morning. Even if there is no nice evening blue hour, you usually get a good one in the morning.

Same with this photo, taken around 6am. Even with the cloudy sky, it got a nice blue color, exactly what I wanted :)

Slovenian morning

It’s nice to see, when they change a building into something else, they still keep a part of the old one. Same with this hotel. It used to be a bank before that, and they left the vault as a part of the cafe :) Interesting place to have a break :)
